You can use the whole site without an account. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and we don't use tracking cookies.
Who looks after your data
Learn Mahjong Quick (learnmahjongquick.com) is a small, free website. Questions about this policy go to [email protected].
Hosting
The site runs on Cloudflare: Cloudflare Pages serves the pages, a Cloudflare D1 database holds accounts, feedback and error reports, and Cloudflare Email Sending delivers our emails. Like any web host, Cloudflare sees your IP address and browser details when it sends you a page, and it may set a short-lived security cookie to tell people from bots. Cloudflare has servers around the world, so your data may be handled outside your country, including in the United States.
To stop abuse, we count how often each IP address asks for sign-in links, sends feedback or sends error reports. We store only a scrambled (hashed) form of the address, and delete the counts after 2 days.
Saved in your browser
Without an account, we don't set cookies. A few things are saved in your browser's local storage so the site remembers them next time. They stay on your device unless you sign in and sync:
- Lessons you have finished, tiles you have earned and your review history.
- Daily puzzle results and your streak, and puzzle best scores.
- Games played and won, and the last game setup you used.
- Your settings: sound, music, tile style, tile art, accessibility options and game settings.
- A card you type in on the "Use your own card" page.
While a page is open, the site also remembers which error messages it has already reported, so it sends each one only once. That list is deleted when you close the tab.
To clear your lesson progress, use "Reset my progress" on the Learn page. To remove your card, use the button on the Use your own card page. To clear everything, clear this site's data in your browser settings.
Visit counts
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views. It doesn't use cookies or store anything in your browser, and it doesn't follow you to other sites.
We also count a few actions ourselves: starting and finishing a lesson, playing a puzzle or a game, printing or downloading a sheet, following a shop link and sharing. Each count stores the action, the page and a short detail, such as which lesson. It doesn't store your IP address, an account or any id. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, we don't count your actions at all.
Error reports
If something breaks on a page, your browser sends us a short report: the error message, a few lines showing where in our code it happened, the page, the version of the site, and the kind of browser (for example "Safari iOS", not the full browser details). We get an email about new errors. Reports are deleted after 30 days.
Accounts (optional)
If you make a free account, we store your email address and the things you choose to sync: lessons and tiles, review history, daily puzzle results and streak, puzzle best scores, game stats and settings, your own card, and your tile and accessibility settings. The Your account page lists everything saved.
We use your email only to send you sign-in links. We don't send you anything else and we don't share it. Each link works once and expires after 15 minutes.
When you sign in, we set one cookie, lmq_session. It keeps you signed in for 90 days after your last visit and is used for nothing else. For each sign-in we also store which browser it came from (the browser's user agent), so you can sign out on all devices.
You can delete your account on the Your account page. That removes your email, your saved progress and your sign-ins from our server straight away. Data on your own device stays until you clear it.
Feedback
When you send feedback, we store your message, the topic, the page you were on and your browser's user agent. If you add your email, we store it so we can reply. If you are signed in, the message is linked to your account. Each message is also emailed to us. We keep feedback so we can follow up; ask and we'll delete yours.
Shop links
Links on our Gear page go to Amazon. We are applying to the Amazon Associates program. Once we are in it, Amazon may use cookies to know the visit came from us. Amazon's privacy policy applies on their site. We count the click (which product and which shop), nothing about you.
Children
Anyone can learn and play here without an account. Accounts are for people 13 and older; if you are under 13, please don't make one or send us your email. If we learn that a child under 13 has an account, we will delete it. Parents can ask us to do this at [email protected].
Your data and your rights
- See what your account saves, or delete it, on the Your account page.
- Email [email protected] to get a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete anything else, such as feedback you sent. We answer within 30 days. We may ask you to write from the email address involved, so we know it's you.
- If you live in the UK, the EU or a place with similar laws, you also have the right to object to how we use your data and to complain to your data protection authority.
Changes
If we change this policy, we change the date at the top. If a change affects what we store about you, we say so on this page.
